New law effects foster are grads

Helping foster care children transition into adulthood is the goal of a new law in Ohio. The measure will provide training for foster care graduates in daily living skills, maintaining a home, obtaining education and employment.

The Public Children Services Association of Ohio is applauding the bill and the assistance it offers. According to the Association, more than 35,000 children were placed in the custody of children services agencies in 1999. On average, those children are two years behind in school. Of those never reunited with their families or adopted, 44 percent drop out of school.
